KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa native Candice Swanepoel was discovered in a Durban flea market by a local modeling scout. Perhaps best known as a leading Victoria’s Secret Angel, Swanepoel has appeared in its annual televised fashion show for seven consecutive years, and famously opened the show in 2011. She has also fronted innumerable print and television campaigns for the intimate apparel behemoth, including a highly covetable spot during the 2015 Super Bowl championship game.
Swanepoel recently starred in the campaigns for Givenchy and the first-ever Givenchy Jeans line. She has also appeared in advertisements for Tom Ford, Versace, Miu Miu, Rag & Bone, Prabal Gurung, Oscar de la Renta, and Brian Atwood, as well as Nike, Diesel, Topshop, and Juicy Couture, among others.
Select pret-a-porter runway appearances, meanwhile, include Givenchy, Christian Dior, Chanel, Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Bottega Veneta, Stella McCartney, Elie Saab, Jason Wu, Diane Von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, and Marc Jacobs.
Swanepoel has fronted over one dozen international editions of Vogue—including the 50th Anniversary issue of Vogue Italia—photographed by Steven Meisel, Sebastian Kim, and Terry Richardson, and accompanying editorial features by Patrick Demarchelier, Craig McDean, Norman Jean Roy, and Bruce Weber. She has also appeared in W, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, and Elle magazines by Mario Sorrenti, Mert & Marcus, Inez & Vinoodh, and Sebastian Faena, among others. Recent covers include the re-launch issues of Lui, Self, and MAXIM.
Swanepoel has also had star turns in the international editions of GQ, LOVE, Purple, Numéro, TEN, Allure, and MUSE magazines by Cedric Buchet, Yu Tsai, Alexi Lubomirski, Cass Bird, Dan Jackson, and Willy Vanderperre. Mario Testino photographed her for a twenty-five page spread for V Man magazine, and remarked, “Candice is an amazing new find for me, gorgeous, free and fun...she made the shoot an amazing experience.”
Off-duty, Swanepoel enjoys swimming and practicing yoga.
